What a new player says about Savage2 PDF Print E-mail

If you don't play "Savage2 - A Tortured Soul" yet, read the following comment from the Savage2 boards and think about joining the family :) I have been playing Savage 2 for a while and occasionally lurking on these forums. After reading what many of the forum members have to say and just generally getting idea of the attitude around here, I felt inclined to make this post.

I wanted to say thank you to S2Games for making such an awesome game that is Savage 2.

Seriously, this has to be one of the best games I've ever played.

Probably the single biggest reason I play and continue to play Savage 2 is because of how easy it is to get online, hop into a server, and get into the action right away. I hate games that require mindless grinding or require you to do other menial tasks before you can really get to the fun part of the game. I don't have a ton of time to play games so I like to make sure the time I have playing is worthwhile, Savage 2 does this excellently. I can play the game as dedicatedly or as casually as I wish and the only affect on me it may have is my own personal skill level.

Speaking of skill, I am extremely impressed by how simple yet intricate and thus effectively also very robust the combat system is in the game. Savage 2 is certainly a skill based game. There is definitely a learning curve but not one so steep that a competent gamer wont have the basics down pretty quickly and have a blast while learning. From day one, I was hooked. Though, being skill based, it also means players can truly master the game and simply outclass the majority of other players when it comes to combat but still don't break the balance of the game. While a highly skilled player can make all the difference to a team, they can not win on their own especially against a well organized team.

Speaking of organized teams, another area that Savage 2 really excels at is promoting team play. The most fun games are the ones where everyone is working together with a competent commander that actually strategizes. All the tools needed for team play are right there, built in - voice coms, squads, commanders, squad leaders, voice commands, etc. Even in open games it is easy for players to organize and really fight together. I've seen many games where the underdog team comes out with a victory simply because they out startagised the more skillfully team.

I've also found that Savage 2 is probably one of the best balanced games I've ever played. Every class is unique and those difference can be used to maximize their effectiveness. Humans and beasts are quite different from one another in an overall picture. Yet neither side nor does one class render the others useless or even underpowered. Every class can be used quite effectively and I have fun as either beast or human.

There are so many positive things I can say about Savage 2 and so few negatives, I could probably go on infinitely about all the things I love about the game. Probably the only negative thing I can say is that I wish the servers were more stable and up more often. However, considering that I only paid $10 for this game and could be playing potentially for free, I couldn't be happier.

Speaking of money, I am also impressed by the way S2Games implemented their micro-transaction system. Though it seems the runes systems comes under the most heavy criticism by players, I don't really see a problem. Runes can certainly give a player an edge but they do not make bad players good. I've yet to pay for a rune and have only used the scratch-off runes I've received for achievements and can see why a player may find purchased runes a little unfair. However, when you consider that the $10 you may have spent of the game probably isn't doing much to pay for supporting this game, it puts it in an entirely new perspective. Those dedicated players that drop in the cash for those runes are paying for everyone else to be able to play. If they get a little extra bonus for that, more power to them!

I am very pleased to hear that S2Games plans to continue supporting Savage2 and am excited to see what you have in store for us in the future. I continue to tell people about the game whenever I get the chance because the one thing it needs is more players!
